2022 Hallowbaloo Event - Downtown Chinatown

On October 29, 2022 I photographed the Hallowbaloo street festival in Chinatown Arts District in Honolulu, Oahu. I was in charge of photographing the costume contest with director of dazzle, Miss Catwings. We roamed the streets of the festival with my lighting assistant and chose out Hallowbaloo's most bedazzled costumes.

Miss Catwings will gave out 10 inaugural Golden Pineapple Awards. Each winner (individual *or* group) received $100 cash and a Golden Pineapple. The photographs of each winner are also be published on Hallowbaloo's social channels celebrating Hallowbaloo's most inspired, costume creatives.

Corporate Event Photography in Honolulu | Hallowbaloo Chinatown Festival

In the heart of Honolulu’s Chinatown Arts District, Hallowbaloo transforms the streets into something unforgettable—part street festival, part art show, part full-on Halloween spectacle.

As a corporate event photographer on Oahu, events like this are always a reminder that great event coverage goes beyond just documenting what happened—it’s about capturing energy, movement, and the personality of the crowd in a way that feels real.

In 2022, I had the chance to photograph Hallowbaloo alongside the Director of Dazzle, Miss Catwings, and my lighting assistant. Together, we moved through the streets, capturing some of the most detailed and creative costumes on the island.

Capturing the Energy of Live Events in Honolulu

Hallowbaloo isn’t just visually impressive—it’s fast-paced, unpredictable, and constantly evolving. That’s exactly the kind of environment where strong event photography services on Oahu matter most.

Working in a setting like this requires:

  • Quick decision-making

  • Awareness of lighting changes

  • The ability to anticipate moments before they happen

As a professional event photographer on Oahu, my approach is always the same—stay mobile, stay observant, and capture moments as they naturally unfold without interrupting the experience.

The Costume Contest | A Showcase of Creativity and Detail

One of the highlights of the night was the costume contest, curated by Miss Catwings, Director of Dazzle.

From a photography standpoint, this is where detail really matters. Every costume had layers—textures, lighting, movement—and each one deserved to be captured in a way that felt intentional and polished.

Whether it’s a festival like this or a corporate event in Honolulu, the goal is the same:
capture images that are not only visually strong, but also usable for marketing, social media, and brand storytelling.

Working as a Corporate Event Photographer on Oahu

Even though Hallowbaloo is a public festival, the workflow behind capturing it is very similar to what I bring to corporate event photography in Honolulu.

That includes:

  • Moving efficiently through crowded environments

  • Working seamlessly alongside event organizers and teams

  • Capturing both wide establishing shots and tight, detailed moments

  • Delivering a consistent, high-quality gallery

Whether it’s a conference, brand activation, or company event, the ability to adapt quickly while maintaining quality is what makes a difference.

Documenting the Atmosphere, Not Just the Moment

What stood out most throughout the night wasn’t just the costumes—it was the energy. The music, the movement, the way people interacted with each other.

That’s something I focus on heavily in my work as a business event photographer in Honolulu—not just capturing what something looked like, but what it felt like to be there.

From wide crowd shots to small candid interactions, the goal is always to create a full visual story.

Final Thoughts

Hallowbaloo is one of those events that reminds you why documentation matters. Once it’s over, all that’s left are the images—and when done right, those images carry the entire experience forward.

If you're planning an event and need a corporate event photographer on Oahu who can capture both the big moments and the subtle ones in between, that’s exactly what I focus on.
